Describe your trip before comparing policies
A useful comparison starts with the destination, trip length and people who need cover. Add any planned activities and non-refundable expenses already paid. Use this list to ask every insurer the same questions instead of comparing only a price or policy name.
This guide provides general information. It does not confirm your eligibility for a policy and does not replace the policy wording or an insurer's answer about your circumstances.
Check the cover you may already have
Gather the policy documents for your bank card, existing insurance and any cover bought with the trip. Check who is covered, the geographical scope, exclusions and claim conditions before buying overlapping protection.
Insurance and assistance benefits may have different conditions. In particular, check whether the trip must have been paid for with a specific card. Simply owning or selecting that card does not confirm cover.

Review each area of cover separately
Do not reduce your protection to a single ‘insured’ box. For every area of cover, check the limit, excess, exclusions and evidence required for a claim.
- Medical expenses: what is covered, whether you must pay first and how to contact the insurer.
- Assistance and repatriation: who arranges it, applicable conditions and any prior-authorisation requirement.
- Cancellation: covered events and eligible expenses.
- Baggage and activities: per-item limits and restrictions linked to your planned use.
Do not confuse the EHIC with travel insurance
For eligible trips, the European Health Insurance Card gives access to state-provided healthcare under the rules of the country you are visiting. It is not a substitute for travel insurance and does not cover repatriation. Assess those needs separately.
France Diplomatie recommends checking your health cover and repatriation assistance before departure. A French consulate will not pay medical or repatriation costs on behalf of a traveller or insurer.
Turn unknowns into precise questions
For example, instead of writing ‘hiking covered’, ask whether your specific activity, altitude and guided or unguided format meet the policy conditions. Keep the dated answer with your other useful documents.
Use Travel insurance in your Lureox trip file to organise these checks. Missing information must remain marked for confirmation. Before departure, also save the assistance number and the instructions to follow if you need help.
Frequently asked questions
Does a Lureox recommendation mean that I am insured?
No. A comparison or choice saved in your trip is neither a policy nor proof of cover. Your protection depends on your contract and whether its conditions are met.
