Start with the trip, not a new card
You do not automatically need another card. First note the countries you will visit, the currencies you will use and the expenses you expect to pay locally. Separate purchases already paid for from the money still available: only the second amount belongs in your payment plan.
For example, if your accommodation is already paid for, compare fees on the meals, transport and cash withdrawals you still expect to pay—not on the total cost of the trip. Leave unknown amounts unconfirmed instead of treating them as zero.
Compare the total cost
Check your bank's current fee schedule: charges may differ between card payments and cash withdrawals, and can depend on the currency, country and card. Also check the card's expiry date and the limits that will apply during your trip.
- Annual fee and any opening or delivery charges for a new card.
- Card payments: any fee and the applicable currency-conversion terms.
- Cash withdrawals: any fixed charge, percentage fee, limits and ATM operator surcharge.
- Conditions you must meet to receive the advertised rate.

Keep a practical backup
Check which payment methods your accommodation and transport providers accept. If you are hiring a car, ask the rental company which type of card it accepts for the deposit: the payment-network logo alone does not tell you whether a card will be treated as debit or credit.
Choose a suitable backup payment method and keep your card issuer's emergency contact details accessible. The aim is not to collect cards, but to avoid relying on a single method that may fail when you need it.
Choosing a card does not confirm your insurance cover
A card may include insurance benefits, but you must check the current policy wording to identify who is covered and under what conditions. Saving a card in Lureox is neither an insurance purchase nor proof of cover. Read the insurance guide before deciding that you do not need separate cover.
Keep the answers with your trip
Return to your Lureox trip file and open Bank card from the trip menu. Your other planning steps remain in the same place, so you do not need a separate file for every comparison.
This guide provides a method, not one card that is best for everyone. Check current fees when you make your decision. If Lureox may earn money from a link, that relationship must be disclosed next to the offer.
Frequently asked questions
Do you have to change banks before travelling?
No. Start by checking your current card, your expected spending and the terms that apply. A new card is useful only if it meets a genuine need.
